Working at Gilbert LLP

Practicing at Gilbert involves novel and challenging legal work.  Our work is technical and complex, but it often arises out of major events—the U.S. opioid crisis, the Boy Scouts of America’s child abuse scandal, major product liability litigation, and the like.

Associates take on substantial responsibility in our matters and perform high-level duties such as briefing, strategy, witness interviews and depositions, and oral arguments.  Because we are not a large firm, matters are often staffed leanly, and partners work closely with associates. Our associates have argued (and won) dispositive motions, substantially participated in mediation sessions in cases worth billions of dollars, taken and defended important fact and expert depositions, and worked directly with experts to develop and advance cases and negotiations.

We take our work seriously, but we don’t take ourselves too seriously, and believe our lawyers should be full members of society.  Gilbert maintains a robust firm-wide pro bono practice and our employees advocate for causes they care about, sit on the boards of organizations they value, and teach at local law schools.

We also employ a hybrid work policy, which allows our lawyers to flexibly alternate between enjoying the benefits of working from home and working from our state-of-the-art and LEED-certified office in vibrant Eastern Market.  For more information about Gilbert’s industry-leading adoption of a hybrid work policy, please review our white paper or the Law360 coverage on the subject.

Gilbert attorneys have built remarkable long-term careers.

The ASSOCIATE Hiring Process at Gilbert

For over a year, a group of attorneys at Gilbert worked on redesigning the hiring process for associates to make it more substantive, more informative for candidates, and less prone to unconscious biases.  The hiring process now incorporates multiple in-depth, structured interviews, and more intensive efforts to expand our recruiting of associates and non-lawyers from diverse backgrounds and historically Black colleges and universities.

If you are interested in applying for an associate position, please apply at careers@gilbertlegal.com.  Your application should include a resume, a law school transcript, and a 10-page maximum (double-spaced) writing sample that reflects your original, exclusive litigation work product.  Because our work is heavily advocacy-oriented, your writing sample should be part of a brief, motion, or some equivalent.
